Sol Phoenix went live on 01 September across eleven operators. Seven days later it had taken 1,042,900 spins — more than Golden Boot managed in its first month, and enough data to stop guessing about the maths.
This is the week-one report we write for ourselves after every launch: what the numbers say, what we got wrong, and what changes in the build that ships next.
The volume curve
Day one carried 19% of the week's spins, which is normal for a launch with stream coverage. What is not normal is day five: instead of the usual decay we saw volume climb again, 6% above day four, with no promotion running.
The clip explains it. A 4,200× ignition chain went out on Friday night and pulled a second wave of players in from three creator audiences that had not touched the game on launch day.
What the maths team changed
The build that shipped is the eleventh maths pass. Three changes did most of the work, and all three came from watching people play rather than from the model:
- Bonus entry moved from 1 in 340 to 1 in 214. Rarer felt prestigious in testing and punishing in practice. The shorter gap costs us base-game value, which we took back from the low-tier symbol pays.
- The multiplier stops resetting on the fourth collapse. Before, a five-collapse chain could end flat. Now the ceiling is reachable often enough that players chase it on purpose.
- Ember wilds became visible one spin early. A purely cosmetic change that lifted spins-per-session by 11%. Anticipation is a mechanic.
“RTP was never the argument. The argument was how long a player waits before the game shows them what it can do.”
Session length is the real signal
A median session of 38 minutes is 9 minutes longer than Golden Boot and 14 longer than Treasure Diving. We care about that number more than spin count, because it is the one that does not move when a stream goes live.
Where it falls apart is mobile: sessions on phones run 24% shorter, and the drop-off clusters on the bonus transition. The animation is 2.4 seconds and it cannot be skipped. That is the first thing we are fixing.
What ships next
Build 1.2 lands in October with a skippable bonus transition, a lighter mobile asset pack, and the ignition meter moved above the reels where thumbs do not cover it. No maths changes — the model is where we want it.
After that, Duck Hunter. Same lane, one game at a time.
